8th October 2019
A delicious curry is a firm favourite with diners across the UK. Each weekend, as a get together with friends, to celebrate a special occasion, or even as a mid week treat. Restaurants are packed with people enjoying what may consider to now be Britain’s national dish. The Catering Butcher are meat suppliers to venues who create tasty dishes which reflect the diversity of Asian culture and flavours. With beef, lamb, chicken and pork you have the basis of a wide variety of curries for National Curry Week and beyond.
October 7th – 13th is National Curry Week to celebrate everything we love about curries and the dining scene which surrounds them. It is no surprise that since the first curry houses opened in the 1970’s the food has evolved and become increasingly popular. There really is a type of curry to suit everyone’s taste. From the milder Korma, a popular choice with chicken and the Passanda for those who prefer more delicate spices, to the moderate Balti served in the familiar wok like steel pan. This is traditionally created with lamb and originates from Northern India and Pakistan. Through to the Goan Vindaloo and the tongue searing Phall. Mixing many cooking techniques and ingredients from across the sub continent, each dish has a fascinating heritage and wonderful aromas to share. This national celebration has now been a regular in the food calendar for 21 years and looks set to continue for many more to come.
