5 Top Bacon Recipes You Need to Try

18th March 2024

When it comes to British bacon, it is a super versatile ingredient for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In fact, bacon can be added to most meals to add crispness and a smokey flavour. Whether you prefer to grill, pan fry or air fry your bacon, we have compiled a list of the 5 top bacon recipes you need to try and that will leave you craving more.

1) Bacon and Egg Croissant

We can’t do a recipe list without a breakfast option! While many bacon lovers are a fan of having a traditional English breakfast with a side of bacon, a bacon and egg croissant is different and something you must try if you want a change from your usual breakfast choices. To make, cook the bacon to your desired liking. Next, make a portion of scrambled eggs. Besides salt and pepper, you can add onion, cheese, tomato, mushrooms, chorizo, spinach, jalapeños or Worcestershire sauce for extra bulk and flavour. Grab a large croissant and make an opening by slicing it horizontally. You can heat the croissant by placing it in a preheated oven for around 5 minutes or air frying it for around 3 minutes. Finally, add the scrambled eggs, place the bacon on top and enjoy.

2) Creamy Bacon Pasta Salad

For a lunch option, you need to try a creamy bacon pasta salad. Grill the bacon for 8 to 10 minutes. Leave to cool and cut into smaller pieces. While the pasta is cooking, mix crème fraîche, garlic, lemon juice and seasoning in a large bowl. Drain the pasta and stir in with baby spinach, cucumber, tomatoes, onion and the cooked bacon. Toss the salad to ensure everything is covered properly.

3) Chicken, Leek and Bacon Pie

Delicious and comforting, a chicken, leek and bacon pie is a winner. Start off boiling 3 or 4 chicken breasts in a deep pan with water, peppercorns, herbs, onion, celery and salt. Simmer for 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes until tender. Cut the cooked chicken into bite-size pieces and transfer to an ovenproof dish. Fry off pancetta until crisp, add leaks and cook until soft. Stir in 2 tablespoons of flour and cook for 1 minute. Pour in chicken stock in parts and stir until the sauce is thick and smooth. Stir in crème fraîche and add mustard (optional), parsley, lemon juice, salt and pepper before covering the chicken with it.

Roll out the puff pastry, brush the edges of the dish with water and place the pastry on top. Press the edges to seal and trim off any excess. Prick the top of the pastry with a sharp knife to release the steam as it bakes and brush with beaten egg. Chill the pie to allow the pastry to set before cooking in a preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes until golden and crispy.

4) Bacon-Wrapped Roast Chicken

Who said bacon can’t be part of a Sunday roast? Prepare a whole chicken as normal, cover with butter. Place strips of back bacon over the chicken, overlapping them slightly. Add chopped carrots, onions, potatoes and garlic to a roasting tin and place the chicken on top. Add 4 tablespoons of water and season well. Roast in a preheated oven uncovered for around 1 hour and 20 minutes. Bast with drippings halfway through, cook until golden and the juices run clear. Cover with tin foil and allow to rest for 15 minutes. Serve with plenty of gravy.

5) Bacon Toad In The Hole

Toad in the hole is a classic British dish typically made with pork sausages. However, the sausages can be wrapped individually with bacon to add extra flavour. To begin, blend eggs, flour, milk and salt in a food processor to create the batter. Fry the sausages for 5 minutes and transfer to a plate to cool. Wrap a bacon rasher around each sausage. Bake the wrapped sausages in an ovenproof dish for another 5 minutes. Remove from the oven and pour in the batter. Bake for a further 30 to 40 minutes until light golden and risen. Cut into wedges and serve.
